Our tours in the east-fjords, which have been running since more than 15 years, are a good opportunity to discover and enjoy the beautyful typical icelandic landscape. We are riding over mountains and along the coast. You can hardly get closer to nature than on horseback and the Icelandic horse is friendly, willing, docile and foot-sure. It will carry the rider down the rockiest slopes and across rivers.
Partipating in our 5-7-day riding tours needs experience in outdoor riding and good physical fitness, because of the long riding distances and we also have to walk sometimes with our horses over the top of mountains. The terrain is various and the style of the tours is quite dynamic .
We are travelling with a free-running herd of about 30-40 horses, so every rider has 2-3 different horses per day, which is necessary for a 20-30 km daytrip. There will be four long days of riding cross the mountain passes. Please prepare your equipment well. Your riding boots should be also comfortable for walking. Long underwear (trousers and shirts) should be woollen or isolating material such as polar fleece, cotton is not recommanded. We will provide riding helmets and rubber rain suits (jackets and trousers).
We offer in our long tours a bride variety of horses, the large number of horses will make it possible for us to find horses to suit the riding ability of each participant.
Overnight accomodation will be sleeping bag accomodation in farms, guesthouses and in modern simple huts. During the tours meals are prepared by the guide with the assistance of the participants. There will be breakfast at the guesthouses/huts, you will prepare your pic-nic for lunch at our breakfast buffet and at the evening we will eat a hot meal.
The days we sleep at our farm Utnyrðingsstaðir, we can bring you to the swimming pool with hot pots in Egilsstaðir to relax after an exciting riding day. So please don't forget you swimming suits!
There will be english speaking horse-guides during the riding expedition.
